WATCH: Ridiculous Maxwell catch helps Stars start BBL|15 on fire
A ridiculous Glenn Maxwell catch has helped the Melbourne Stars to victory in their first BBL|15 game of the season, which came against the Hobart Hurricanes at the MCG.
The ‘Canes batted first after being sent in by Stars skipper Marcus Stoinis, and while Ben McDermott reached a classy 69 from 52 balls, the reigning champs could only muster 9/158 from their 20 overs.
One reason why they couldn’t kick on late was Maxwell’s grab to dismiss Matthew Wade off the bowling of Peter Siddle.
Wade thumped a full ball aerially all the way to the long on boundary, and while it crossed the rope on the full, Maxwell was able to time a jump perfectly where he caught the ball, and tossed it back onto the field of play before his feet hit the ground.
The freakish star then simply walked back over the rope and completed the catch to dismiss the former Aussie star.
In reply, the Stars easily chased the target of 159 from just 16 overs, only losing two wickets in Joe Clarke (20) and Tom Rogers (30).
Aussie Test hopeful Campbell Kellaway proved he can dominate in the shortest format too with 41 from 27, while skipper Marcus Stoinis made easy work of the Canes to deliver a Man of the Match performance for his 62 from 31 deliveries to go with 2/18 with the ball.
