Daly Cherry-Evans remains without a contract for 2026 but has revealed he’s held talks with two clubs.
Two months on from the calamitous announcement that he would be leaving Manly after 14 years - which was denied by the club on live television - Cherry-Evans remains intent he will play on away from Brookvale.
“Yes, the Roosters are someone I have spoken to,” said Cherry-Evans. “But, no, nothing has been done yet.
“I haven’t signed with anyone and that’s the part … I’ve kept that really tight.
“That’s one part that is easy to connect the dots because I haven’t spoken to many clubs. I made it clear at the start I wasn’t going to waste anyone’s time with this process.
“The Dolphins is one of the sides I have spoken to but again nothing has happened.”
Despite his openness in revealing who he has spoken to, Cherry-Evans refused to discuss details on what he thought of the two options as destinations.
Adamant he wanted to “respect” his current teammates, Cherry-Evans added: “Even though I have told you who I have been talking to, I don’t think it’s fair to talk about the other clubs right now while I am at Manly.
“I have been trying to be really respectful of them during the whole process.
“I don’t think it’s fair for me to talk too much about why I would want to go somewhere else when my job right now is to play well for Queensland and Manly and try and win a premiership this year.”
Now in camp with the Queensland State of Origin team, Cherry-Evans insists no decision will be made until after the three-game series.
"The first part was making sure that I would be good to go (for Queensland again) and after the first 11 weeks of the season, the motivation is as high as ever to play Origin," he said.
"The motivation is definitely there to play on next year (in the NRL). When the time is right, I will sign on with a club and make an announcement, but that's highly unlikely to happen any time soon and certainly not during Origin.
"Now that we are here I don't think I will be putting anyone - both Manly and another club and this team - under any unnecessary pressure.
"I'm the only person that has to worry about or deal with it and that's the way I wanted it and that's why I've afforded myself the time to take my time."
