Why Isa Guha believes England will win the next Ashes series
With the 2025-26 Ashes series wrapped up in Australia, attention quickly turns to the next Ashes series in England.
Australia’s dominance on home soil leaves the side in good stead to continue their reign over England, however, given the number of ageing talents, the Aussies can expect some serious squad turnover over the upcoming Tests.
Beyond the retiring Usman Khawaja, the likes of Steve Smith (36 years old), Alex Carey (34), Mitchell Starc (35), Scott Boland (34), Nathan Lyon (38), Michael Neser (35) and Josh Hazlewood (35) are all rapidly approaching the twilight of their careers.
Despite debuting the likes of Jake Weatherald during this Ashes series, Aussie selectors are yet to birth the next batch of stars, with the likes of Sam Konstas, Campbell Kellaway, Cooper Connolly and Ollie Peake headlining the next generation of Test cricketers.
And while the transitional phase may require patience before the young guns take the next step, former Test cricketer and analyst Isa Guha believes the balance in transition is crucial to filtering in new talent successfully.

“Obviously, there will be a lot of changes from an Australian point of view, but there is still a lot of talent knocking around to come into that side,” Guha told SEN Afternoons.
“Sometimes when you don't have the seniority and the senior players within the side, and you go through that transition phase, it's on those young, exuberant young players to come in and have no fear.
“Sometimes I think you see them flourish even more when you haven't got the senior players around them.
“Still a balance is required of having a few senior players in there, but I think there's a lot of talent within that side to be able to do well in England.”
Considering the future of both Test sides, Guha couldn’t help but edge her prediction in favour of England. Australia have not won an Ashes series in England since 2001, despite holding the Ashes since their series win in 2017/18.
“It's really hard to say,” she admitted.
“I'd say that it will probably be more favoured to England just because of playing in those conditions and understanding them a bit better.
“Harry Brook will be a little bit wiser and more experienced, Zak Crawley, Jacob Bethell coming through, and we've got some bowlers that if they're able to stay fit, then they can cause some serious problems.
“So, yeah, I would say that the advantage will be with England, when that next Ashes comes around.”
The next Ashes series will be held in England in 2027.
