When larrikin quick kissed beer badge instead of Aussie emblem
Former fast bowler Doug Bollinger was one of the great larrikins of Australian cricket.
The big left-armer played 60 games for his country from 2009 to 2014 including 12 Tests where he took 50 wickets at an average of 25.92.
Bollinger’s best outing with the ball came in early 2010 against New Zealand in Wellington where he took 5/28, and it was during that game when one of his most famous moments as an Aussie cricketer occurred.
Having taken his five-for with the wicket of bowler Brent Arnel for a golden duck, Bollinger celebrated by kissing his shirt.
But as he went to kiss the Australian emblem, he grabbed the wrong side of his shirt and instead placed his lips on the VB logo.
The famous moment and Bollinger’s ability to laugh it off and enjoy himself represented the boy from Western Sydney as a person, with the now 44-year-old always a favourite of his teammates.
Bollinger spoke about the ups and downs of his career and some funny moments on this week’s episode of This is Your Journey – thanks to Tobin Brothers.
