"Too good": Beiwacht dominates in the Golden Rose
Beiwacht has taken out the Group 1 three-year-old Golden Rose.
Wodeton and Tempted finished in the placings, coming second and third respectively.
The Chris Waller trained Beiwacht was at $9 odds (on Sportsbet) prior to the race and ran incredibly.
The Group 1 winner lead for the entire race and ended up winning by 4.14 lengths, with none of his opposition being able to run him down.
“We knew he was gonna lead,” David Taggart told SENTrack’s Saturday Trackside.
“He raced forward in the lead up when Tempted beat him in The Run To The Rose.
“He was just too good.
“I was worried about the 1400m, but he saw that out.
“Does he come to Melbourne now for the (Caulfield) Guineas?
“That’s a soft lead over the mile at Caulfield.
“After that you’ve got to go to the Guineas.”
Tempted who was the $2.90 favourite (on Sportsbet) overcame a wide barrier early, but couldn’t run down Beiwacht.
Taggart exclaimed that it was a waste of a beautiful ride by Ethan Brown from the filly.
“Tempted, what a waste of a good ride that was,” Taggart said.
“She must’ve raced a little bit flat second-up.
“I thought she’d improve.”
When asked if Wodeton was overrated for only having one win from eight starts, Taggart emphasised that the colt is still an elite horse.
“This horse has run second in a Golden Slipper,” Taggart said.
“He’s got multiple Group 1 placings.
“I know he’s the winner of only one race, he’d have to be a frustrating animal, but mate he’s won $1.3 million now.
“He’s never far off.”
Wodeton is currently the second favourite for the Caulfield Guineas at $6 (on Sportsbet) while Beiwacht is at $11.
