"Talented": Brown blown away by Sepals Group 1 victory
Four-year-old bay Sepals has his trainer Cliff Brown very excited about the future.
The gelding just won his first Group 1, taking out the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) in his seventh start.
The multiple Group 1 winning trainer emphasised just how difficult Group 1s are to win, making the victory even more sweet.

“He’s a talented horse,” Brown told RSN's Correct Weight.
“For him to win like he did was very, very good.
“(Group 1s) are so hard to win, for him to do that it is really good and it’s very important for the stable.”
What impressed Brown most though was that Sepals was able to prove his versatility, opening plenty of options for the four-year-olds future races.
“The beauty of him is yesterday was a pretty firm track and he’s won on wet tracks,” Brown exclaimed.
“They’re rare those horses that can handle everything - that’s significant.
“It gives you options, it gives you the ability to go to Sydney, have a wet autumn.
“It doesn’t restrict you.”
As this is only Sepals second racing campaign, RSN’s Nick Noonan believes the gelding still has so much upside.
Cliff Brown was in complete agreement with Nick’s synopsis and revealed the four-year-old will be saved up for a big 2026 autumn carnival.
“I totally agree, I think you’re 100% right!” Brown agreed.
“He’s only four and he’s had seven starts.
“He’ll have maybe another run, another two, then have a break.
“I think the autumn is when we will really see a nice horse.”
When asked about whether Sepals will become a weight-for-age race running horse or not, the Group 1 winning trainer was confident in his answer.
“I think so,” Brown admitted.
“I think any good weight-for-age horse has that ability to race on the speed and then still quicken – he can do that.
“He has the attitude to be a good horse.”
