“I think she can”: Gately’s tip for the first running of The Taggart

The SEN Underwood Stakes day kicks off tomorrow at Caulfield from 12:10pm for Race 1, hosted by Melbourne Racing Club.
The high-quality card will feature 10 races, including two Group 1s - The SEN Underwood Stakes (1800m) and the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m).
This Saturday also features the inaugural running of The Taggart which will take place at 1:15pm AEST.
The Taggart pays homage to former jockey and SENTrack star David Taggart and his late father Les.
Expert tipster David “Gator” Gately joined SEN Breakfast with Kane Cornes and David King to discuss the big Caulfield race day tomorrow.
“You’ve been in really good form because we’re hot on following your tips here,” Kingy said.
“It’s a big day for the Taggart family."
“Big day for the team,” Gator agreed.
Gator admitted that despite there being plenty of pressure on tipping the winner of The Taggart, he believes Stretan Angel at $5 (on Sportsbet) will take out the new race.
“There’s a bit of pressure to find the winner on that race,” Gator said.
“I’ve tipped Stretan Angel in that, but she’ll need to turn her form around – I think she can.”
When Gator was asked about his best bet of the day, the expert tipster revealed that Half Yours at $2.20 (on Sportsbet) in Race 9 is his best.
“I’m gonna go Race 9 at Caulfield and I think it’s a really nice horse here called Half Yours,” Gator revealed.
“He’s a genuinely exciting horse – he was back and wide last time in Sydney and ran a great race back in trip.
“A bit of rain about is a bonus for him.
“So, I made him the best on the big race card – that’s Race 9, number 17.”
In the Group 1 SEN Underwood Stakes, Gator admitted that Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott’s Sir Delius will narrowly edge out the 2024 Underwood winner Buckaroo.
“I’ve leant to Sir Delius over Buckaroo and the markets right there, so it’s nothing groundbreaking,” Gator admitted.
“Buckaroo’s been competitive with the Via Sistina’s of this world and Sir Delius hasn’t yet, but I don’t think there is any doubt he will be.
“And that is what we’re gambling on.
“He’s taken that next step, his first-up run was excellent.
“I’ve gone with Sir Delius narrowly over Buckaroo in the SEN Underwood Stakes.”
