How the standouts and Aussie hopefuls fared in the fifth round of the Sheffield Shield season
The fifth round of the Sheffield Shield season is complete with three fixtures finishing earlier this week.
The first match to take place occurred at the Adelaide Oval with the SACAs facing Western Australia in a day/night clash.
While the ball did plenty for the seamers under lights, the game played out in a draw after the visitors were denied victory by rain on Day 4 after setting SA 364 to win.
The game finished with the home side 6/208 with Liam Scott (33 off 106) and skipper Ben Manenti (21 off 34 balls) at the crease.

The standout batter across the game was WA number three Jayden Goodwin who smashed 139 and 69, while opener Cameron Bancroft found some much-needed form with 105 in the second dig after falling for a duck in the first. For South Australia, Henry Hunt made a strong 106 in their first innings.
WA quick Joel Paris took 5/34 in the first innings while his opening partner Jhye Richardson took 3/47 and in doing so unbelievably dislocated his shoulder celebrating a wicket before continuing with the ball as if nothing happened.
For SA, Aussie white-ball paceman Spencer Johnson took five wickets across the match in his maiden First Class match for the season.
The other day/night game took place at the Gabba with Victoria beating Queensland by 90 runs after a huge second-innings comeback.
After Victoria posted 186 in the first dig with Queensland skipper Mitch Swepson taking 4/31, the home side grabbed themselves a 111-run lead in between knocks as they posted 297, with Angus Lovell and Xavier Bartlett making half-centuries.
With a lot of work to do, the visitors got the lead back none down thanks to top-order efforts from openers Cambell Kellaway (122) and Marcus Harris (62), while No. 3 Matthew Short (59) helped the Vics get to 439, setting the Bulls 329 to win.
The Queenslanders couldn’t get there, being bowled out for 238 as only Ben McDermott (68) passed 50. Sam Elliott (4/43) and Todd Murphy (3/48) helped seal victory for the Vics.
The other game took place at the SCG with Tasmania defeating NSW by 55 runs in a close contest.
Tim Ward (92 & 96) was named Player of the Match for his efforts with the bat as Tasmania made 364 in the first innings and 8/268d in the second, setting NSW 295 to win.
The home side could only muster 239 in that chase after posting 338 in the first innings.
Apart from Ward, Beau Webster (61, 49 and five wickets) did enough to earn an Australian Test squad call-up, while NSW’s Kurtis Patterson made the top score of the match with 99 in the home side’s first innings.
Victoria remains atop the Shield table with three wins, one draw and one loss from five games, ahead of WA, SA, Tasmania, NSW and Queensland in sixth.
