“It’s an appealing list”: The pitch behind James Peatling’s move to the Crows
James Peatling has revealed the enticing pitch made by the Adelaide Crows that ultimately led to his move to South Australia.
The 24-year-old was traded by GWS to the Crows on the final day of the trade period in exchange for a future second-round draft pick.
Peatling is from Sydney so it was a tough decision to move to Adelaide, but he made it for the good of his playing career.
“Obviously a lot goes into it (the decision),” Peatling told SEN's Sportsday.
“I’ve made lifelong friendships in Sydney, I grew up around the area.
“I did take my time with my decision. I wanted to focus on what was ahead with the finals series (with the Giants).
“I had to step away and ask what I wanted to look back on with my career and did I leave every stone unturned.
“I just thought it would be the best for me ultimately both on field and off field footy wise.”

Having been taken in the 2021 mid-season draft, Peatling played 45 games for the Giants, including 19 games in 2024 and three finals overall.
Despite providing the Giants with an impressive return from a mid-season selection, the promising future of Adelaide's young list enticed Peatling to make his move.
“It’s an appealing list with their age demographic and the amount of games they are starting to play together,” the defender said.
“That is something that did draw me and was something I was enticed by.”
The 24-year-old was also attracted to the fact that Adelaide provides an opportunity for players moving clubs, with the last two winners of the club's Best and Fairest - Jordan Dawson and Ben Keays - previously playing elsewhere.
“That was enticing as well, the fact if I did come here and put my head down and earn respect and play well that I could get the most out of myself as a footballer,” Peatling said.
“That’s ultimately what I wanted to do.”
The addition of Peatling is part of a long list of changes the Crows have taken this off-season in a bid to return to finals football for the first time since 2017.
