Australia’s batting concerns continue into the third test, falling for 225 following a late collapse.
Opting for a pink ball selection shake-up, Australia went without a readily available Nathan Lyon for the first time since 2013, selecting Scott Boland for their first all-pace attack since 2023.
Electing to bat, the Aussie openers once again failed to set the tone as Sam Konstas fell for just 17 off 53 balls.
A successful Cam Green challenge provided a lifeline for the number three, who under immense pressure put up a strong 46, with Steve Smith and Travis Head seeing the Aussies out until dinner.
Shamar Joseph once again caused all sorts of headaches, dismissing Smith two short of a half century and putting on a four-wicket showing, commencing an almighty batting collapse.
Under the lights, Australia lost seven wickets within 23 overs as Beau Webster managed just a single run, while Mitchell Starc’s 100th Test resulted in a four-ball duck.
Pat Cummins’ (24) trio of maximums helped to drag the tally to 225, as the late flurry forced the West Indies to face the music with just over half an hour to survive Day 1.
In the most difficult of conditions, the undermanned West Indies put up an immense battle, losing just one wicket – debutant Kevlon Anderson for just three runs to milestone man Starc – ending the night at 1-16.
