The list of 2025 Melbourne Cup hopefuls is now at 40 after third declarations.
The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) has released the list of third acceptors and the latest order of entry for the race that stops a nation at Flemington over 3200m on the first Tuesday in November.
Five horses, including Caulfield Cup winner Half Yours, are in the field after winning ballot exempt races in the lead-up. Joining Half Yours is Brian Ellison’s UK raider Onesmoothoperator who won the Moonee Valley Gold Cup on Friday night.
Two-time Cup winning trainer Joseph O’Brien has his raider Al Riffa at the top of the order of entry behind the ballot-exempt quintet while Chris Waller’s Cox Plate runner-up Buckaroo is next in line.
Waller has eight horses nominated at this stage to lead the way ahead of Ciaron Maher with five.
The final Cup field will be announced after the Victoria Derby on Saturday.
