Cricket Australia gives update on injured Ashes trio
There is no set return date for Nathan Lyon or Pat Cummins as Australia move into a busy cricketing calendar in 2026, per Cricket Australia.
Cummins and Lyon were officially ruled out of the remainder of the Ashes series after the Adelaide Test, with Lyon suffering a hamstring injury, and Cummins put back on load management given the series was wrapped up.
It was an interrupted Ashes series for both players, with Cummins' back injury limiting him to one Test, while Nathan Lyon wasn't selected for the second Test before being injured in the third.
In a statement, the governing body has provided an update on Lyon's and Cummins' injury status.
"Pat Cummins will undertake a planned period of load management to provide the optimal environment for his ongoing back recovery," a Cricket Australia statement read.
"He will undergo scheduled imaging over the coming weeks to assess progress, in line with the management plan established prior to his return to play.
"Nathan Lyon sustained a high-grade right hamstring injury for which he underwent successful surgical repair on 23rd December.
"Nathan has entered an extended period of rehabilitation that will rule him out for the remainder of the domestic season. His return to play timeline will be determined at a later date based on his rehabilitation progression over the coming months."
In good news for Australia however, Tim David and Josh Hazlewood are both expected to be fit for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Hazlewood suffered a hamstring injury in the lead-up to the Ashes playing domestic Shield cricket, before injuring his Achilles during his recovery.
It's meant the pace bowler has played no part in this Ashes campaign.
Batter Tim David suffered a hamstring strain in a recent Big Bash game with the Hurricanes that placed his campaign in doubt. However, he is now expected to be available for the World Cup.
"Tim David sustained a grade two right hamstring strain during his recent BBL match," Cricket Australia revealed.
"As a result, David has been ruled out for the remainder of the BBL. David's rehabilitation timeline has him tracking to be available for selection for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka and India.
"Josh Hazlewood has recommenced running following recovery from a hamstring injury and Achilles soreness. His rehabilitation is progressing well, and he remains on track to be available for the T20 World Cup."
