Bosnich: Scotland job could help resurrect Ange's reputation
With Ange Postecoglou currently the odds-on favourite to become Scotland's next manager, Mark Bosnich believes he should consider taking up the position.
After qualifying for the World Cup finals for the first time since 1998 and winning their first match at the tournament since 1990, Scotland were unable to progress to the knockouts, with their negative goal difference seeing them miss out on the Round of 32.
As a result, Scotland’s coach Steve Clarke has decided to step down from his role after seven years in charge.
Following his departure, the Australian has emerged as a contender for the position alongside current Everton manager David Moyes and Falkirk's John McGlynn.
Postecoglou does have experience in international football, having managed the Socceroos between 2013 and 2017, which saw success on a continental level in the 2015 Asian Cup.
With his last role being his 39-day tenure at Nottingham Forest last October, the former Manchester United goalkeeper believes this job could help rebuild the 60-year-old's reputation within world football.
“Why not?” Bosnich said on SEN’s Arvos with Adam Peacock.
“I think they'll be really good for him because the one thing Scottish supporters have been lamenting during this World Cup and the Euros, even though it's the first time they've qualified for quite some time in the World Cup since 1998 and the Euros for quite some time as well.
“They've been lamenting the fact that they think they still play too cautious of football.
“Now where have we heard that before? Remember, before he took over here (the Socceroos).
“So, he took it exactly the other way. He had success in terms of the Asian Cup; he didn't in the World Cup, but he did in the Asian Cup.
“The style of football he likes to play should be seen in the major tournaments.
"If he can make sure that Scotland qualify for the knockout stages of a major tournament, which they've never done before, he'll be an absolute hero, even more so a hero, which he is after his time at Celtic.
“And the club football scene, he may be looking around and being made offers that he thinks is not quite for me.
“Whereas he knows if he does really, really well with Scotland, that's a great way to resurrect his reputation after what happened at Nottingham Forest.”
Should Postecoglou get the job, he would be only the second foreign manager to take charge of the national team.
Scotland will next play in September when they begin their UEFA Nations League campaign against Slovenia.
