“Super grateful”: Magpies select Ash Centra with coveted Pick 1
SEN • December 17th, 2024 10:11 am
Ash Centra is a Collingwood player after being selected with Pick 1 in the AFLW Draft.
The 18-year-old Gippsland Power star will don the black and white in 2025 and beyond after the Magpies called out her name with the coveted top pick.
The humble Centra, who played her junior footy at Sale City, says it will take a little bit of time before it all sinks in.
“It's such a big achievement and I don't think it's sunk in yet. I'm just so overwhelmed and so excited,” Centra said.
“I had some positive feedback from Collingwood, and we'd had a few chats, but nothing is set in stone, to be read out as No.1, I'm super grateful.
It is the first time the Pies have had a No.1 pick since 1999. The person taken on that occasion, Josh Fraser, was there to present Centra with her first black and white jumper.
Behind Centra at Pick 2 was Gold Coast Academy gun Havana Harris who was snapped up by the Suns. They matched a bid from Melbourne, before the Demons then took Molly O’Hehir with Pick 3.
GWS selected Sara Howley with Pick 4 and Sydney landed Zippy Fish with Pick 5.
