Tasracing's Sunday best bets at Devonport (03/05)
Matt Reid • May 2nd, 2026 9:00 pm

Thoroughbred racing returns to Devonport for the first time since early March, with an eight-race card on Sunday.
Heavy rainfall is forecast for race day, which may play a significant role despite the synthetic racing surface.
Best Bet
Race 1 – 2. Strato Ken
A small field begins the day, and I think Strato Ken can kick us off with a winner. It looked as though he won his maiden last time we saw him, but in a deceptive photo, he didn’t get the bob. The third horse there came out and won its maiden next start, and having been freshened since then, this looks like a clear target race for the stable. He should land in the first few and hopefully get his chance from there.
Next best
Race 8 – 4. Lady Galadriel
At the other end of the program, Lady Galadriel looks particularly well placed in the BM72. She’d been a bit tardy from the barriers at different stages this campaign, but she settled forward last start, which was a key to that victory. There is good speed in the race here, so it’ll be important that she doesn’t settle too far off them, but I think if she’s close enough on the turn, she’ll be too strong late.
Best value
Race 2 – 3. Tikken
Tikken joins Trent Wells’ team after being trained in Victoria by Richard Cully. His form interstate was over further than the 1009m he races at here, but he appeared to have much more to offer in a recent 800m trial where he finished under a strong hold. The market will likely provide a strong guide, but with some okay form among the locals, hopefully we’ll see an each-way price.
