Tasracing's Sunday best bets at Devonport (21/09)
Matt Reid • September 21st, 2025 1:00 pm

The run of synthetic meetings continues in Devonport on Sunday with an eight-race program.
Small fields are the order of the day, with race 1 set for 13:00.
Best Bet
Race 4 – 1. Cherokee Dancer
Cherokee Dancer won here last Sunday over 1009m, and I think she’ll go back-to-back, this time at 1150m. Off a genuine early speed last week, she landed in the one-one, but there looks to be less pressure in this race, which could see her end up as the leader. I see this as largely a race in two, with Zoete’s Rock as the main danger, and I’ve a strong lean to Cherokee Dancer, who should have the position in running advantage.
Next best
Race 1 – 4. Respite
It was a nightmare debut for Respite, who started $1.60 but raced wide without cover from a bad gate. She boxed admirably there, admittedly in a weak maiden, but she’s since returned to the trials and now comes up with barrier 1. Similar to the first race, I think she’ll be ahead of her main danger, Who’s in Dev, who has drawn slightly awkwardly in the smallish field.
Best value
Race 1 – 3. Rubbleonthedouble
Not often a field of five throws up a value play, but I think that may happen in the opener. Rubbleonthedouble has been ordinary this prep, but there were signs of life here a fortnight ago, where the run had plenty of excuses after racing wide without cover. He meets the winner, Adachi, 2.5kg, better at the weights, and he should be fit now, fourth-up with visors going on.
