Tasracing’s Sunday best bets at Hobart (22/08)
Matt Reid • August 24th, 2025 11:00 am

Sunday thoroughbred action is in Hobart for a competitive eight-race card.
Fine weather in Hobart should see the track in the 4-5 range, with the rail +3m.
Best bet
Race 1 – 2. Moorlands Miss
After her Listed Tasmanian Guineas win as a 3yo, Moorlands Miss has been a hard horse to place for Glenn Stevenson this campaign, but she returned to something like her best last Sunday. She gets out to 2100m fourth-up, and the blinkers are applied for what looks like a very winnable assignment. She placed at the trip in the Tasmanian Oaks, and there’s little doubt that Moorlands Miss is the progressive horse in a field that has seen plenty of each other through winter.
Next best
Race 6 – 4. Miss De Lune
After a brief Victorian stint, Miss De Lune has returned to Tasmania as a different horse, finishing in the quinella at all three starts this campaign. She was very good in a strong class 2 last start and drops back to class 1 here with a very winnable weight (56.5kg). She draws barrier 1 for the third time this campaign, which should see her enjoy the run of the race and prove very hard to beat.
Best roughie
Race 7 – 7. Fighting Floyd
Fighting Floyd has been big prices all campaign, and I doubt that changes after finishing well down the track in Launceston. I’m easily forgiving that run; he’s a much better horse in Hobart, evident in his first two runs this campaign. He’s won two of four at the T&D, along with a minor placing and should appreciate a genuine tempo set by two noted speed runners in Flying Billie and Lovin’ Bev.
