Tasracing's Wednesday best bets at Launceston (14/01)
Matt Reid • January 14th, 2026 3:00 pm

Feature racing heads to Launceston on Wednesday night with an eight-race card headlined by the Listed Kevin Sharkie Launceston Guineas.
The rail moves out to +3m after being at true for the meeting five days ago. The track is likely to race in the 4-5 range based on the weather forecast.
Best Bet
Race 8 – 1. Eastcoast Miss
We’ll need to wait until the last of the night, where Eastcoast Miss has a class edge over her rivals. She trialled well leading into a first-up run where she went right back from a wide gate and charged home into third place. She does have the ability to settle closer to the speed, and that’s the key to the race, because if she’s within striking distance turning for home, I think she’ll be too good.
Next Best
Race 3 – 3. Hartman
The two scratchings have changed the look of this race and set the speed map up very nicely for Hartman, who should be able to find the front without a heap of pressure. He has led and faded at this last two starts in Devonport, but I thought the Cup Day run behind Coal River was full of merit, particularly with the gap the quinella put on the third horse.
Best Value
Race 1 – 1. Alpine Whiskey
The market has the opener as a race between the two Adam Trinder runners, but I have Alpine Whiskey in the mix as well. The form from his debut run has held up particularly well, and the winner of that race, Wolf Junior, is a hope in the Launceston Guineas. He’s won a trial since that effort and has drawn ideally to track the speed where I think he’ll be strong at the end of 1200m.
