Tasracing's Wednesday best bets at Launceston (26/11)

The Launceston Night Racing season continues on Wednesday night with an eight-race program.
It’s the third Tasmanian meeting in five days, but the fields have held up well.
The rail is at +2m, a shift from true on Newmarket night and a little bit of rain around should have the track in the soft range.
Best bet
Race 2 – 2. Beneficiary
Connections have been patient with Beneficiary, who debuts here as a five-year-old after being a $225,000 purchase back in 2022. His issues appear to be behind him, as his two trials this time in have been very good, albeit a bit slow away in both. For that reason, I don’t hate barrier 15 for him, likely to be late to load and away from the traffic. This isn’t a strong maiden, with Beneficiary and Don Turboas the clear top two for me, and I have them much closer in the market.
Next best
Race 8 – 5. Steel Mist
I’ve found a few outside the market on this card, including Steel Mist in the last. The eight-year-old is a bit of an enigma, often ridden like The Cleaner despite frequently being slow from the barriers. Off a freshen, I thought his last start in Hobart was very good in a strong BM60, and this is the type of race where there isn’t much between them. If the right Steel Mist turns up, he can give this a shake.
Best roughie
Race 1 – 7. Zulu Fields
The stats don’t make for great reading for Zulu Fields, but she went to a new level last preparation, running well in some strong maidens. She resumes here for a new stable, off the back of a soft Longford trial. It’s an interesting opener where I thought you could poke holes in most of them, and a race where I’ll happily go hunting for a rough result.
