The horse most heavily backed for Everest amid Ka Ying Rising rumours
Amid rumours of Ka Ying Rising's scratching from The Everest, his odds drifted drastically, moving away from the $1.50 favourite that he originally was on many bookmakers.
On October 12 whispers started to spread about the health of Ka Ying Rising, suggesting that the David Hayes trained bay wouldn’t make it to The Everest on October 18.
As the whispers turned into screams, mass panic took over the betting markets.
In fact, TAB was even forced to suspend The Everest futures market as there was too much money being gambled outside of Ka Ying Rising.
As a result of this conundrum, Hayes made a public announcement, denying any negative health claims, putting the rumour to bed.
The markets are now slowly restabilising, but the damage has already been done – some punters grabbed bargains on Ka Ying Rising, while others paid an unnecessarily shorter price for the rest of the field.
But who was the main horse that punters piled cash on?
Jimmysstar was the biggest market mover on many bookmakers and moved from $11 into $4.80 (on Betfair).
Joliestar was also heavily supported, shortening into $5.50 from $9 (on Betfair). While Briasa and Overpass were popular with the punters on bet365.
Ka Ying Rising is still the short favourite on many bookmakers but isn’t as short as the $1.50 favourite he was prior to the rumours.
