Gerard Healy and Sam Hargreaves have named their top Grand Final contenders for the 2025 AFL season.
Hargreaves picked three teams that he most expects to feature on the last Saturday of September, naming reigning premiers Brisbane, consistent finalists GWS and talent-laden Carlton.
After Hargreaves picked his three, Healy added one more team that he thinks should also be in that top echelon of contenders – Fremantle.
They discussed their picks on SEN Sportsday and Healy explained why he thinks Freo are a genuine chance to claim their first flag in club history despite missing finals entirely last campaign.
Healy: “Who are your top three contenders for the Grand Final next year?”
Hargreaves*: “Brisbane and GWS are my top two, and it’s not an easy question.”
Healy: “Brisbane's the obvious one.”
Hargreaves*: “The other I will throw in is Carlton. The doors will be locked when I get home because I didn’t say Collingwood.”
Healy: “Outside of those three, I'm saying the Dockers.
“I felt the Dockers could win it last year one period, then they got two or three injuries and fell off the planet in the last month losing the last four games and falling out of the eight.
“But they've picked up a couple of absolute rippers and they're ready to go.
“I mean, this is a side that's in the sweet spot for the flag and they absolutely need to play at least two weeks of finals.”
Hargreaves: “I think that's a very good call.”
The 2025 AFL Grand Final will be held on Saturday, September 27.
