The most "unbeatable" horse Dave Eustace has ever seen
Dominant trainer David Eustace, who is now based out of Sha Tin, has heaped praise on the world’s best sprinter, Ka Ying Rising, claiming that the nine-time Group 1 winner is the most “unbeatable” horse he has ever seen.
The former Melbourne Cup and Cox Plate winning trainer alongside Ciaron Maher, has been able to continuously see the David Hayes-trained gelding in person at Sha Tin, and is adamant that no horse can defeat the star sprinter on his home track across 1200m.
“Honestly, he's as push-button as you'll get. That's the amazing thing that he has. There are just no chinks,” the trainer told SENTrack & RSN’s Giddy Up.
“I don't want to put the moz on him, but he's as unbeatable as I've seen. Ka Ying makes his own luck every time.
“He proved in The Everest what he can do, but Sha Tin, 1200m, in his backyard, I don't see a horse racing over that distance at the moment that could beat him.”
Weighing in on the debate surrounding whether Ka Ying Rising or Romantic Warrior deserves to win the 25/26 Hong Kong Horse of the Year, Eustace stated that the son of Shamexpress should just win the title but admitted we shouldn’t be comparing the two champions.
“The Horse of the Year show is a big thing in Hong Kong. It's a coveted prize,” Eustace started.
“I would have thought that Ka Ying nudges it. He's done everything; travelled abroad and won.
“They're two great horses. I honestly, I don't think it needs to be a competition. I don't think it's a conversation that's required.”
Asked about a hypothetical match-race between the two guns across 1600m, Eustace sided with Ka Ying Rising again.
“That's a good question; I’d probably back Ka Ying. I would back Ka Ying,” the trainer admitted.
“He'd relax well enough and he's quicker.”
