Will they improve? Will they regress? The big questions facing Gold Coast in 2025
SEN Breakfast hosts Sam Edmund and Kane Cornes have run their eyes over Gold Coast and how they’re shaping up for the 2025 campaign.
With the trade and free agency period now complete, Edmund and Cornes discussed how the club may improve in 2025, how they may regress if things go wrong and the big questions facing the club next season.
The Suns again missed finals in 2024, finishing 13th on the ladder with 11 wins and 12 losses in Damien Hardwick’s first season at the helm.

How can they improve?
“They can’t get any worse with the amount of talent they’ve got,” Cornes said on SEN Breakfast.
“I agree that they have to start winning when they’re not at home.”
Edmund added: “John Noble and Daniel Rioli were identified from a needs perspective, they were identified.
“It’s the second year under Damien Hardwick. You’d hope Mac Andrew keeps developing and Ben King keeps growing.”
How might they regress?
“They can’t get worse,” Cornes said.
“They will play finals next year.”
The other 2025 burning questions
“The question is as it has been since their inception, can they break through for a maiden finals appearance?” Edmund asked.
Cornes said: “I got sucked in last year with their fixture and thought there’s no way this team can’t play finals with the double-ups against poor teams that they had.
“Can Bailey Humphrey, Ben Ainsworth, Andrew and King drive this team to the next level?
“They’ve given up pick six for a half-back flanker, that tells you everything Gold Coast think about themselves.”
