Kostecki claims third straight Bathurst pole
For the third year in a row, Brodie Kostecki has claimed his third pole in the Top 10 shootout at Bathurst on Saturday.
Looking to defend his crown from last year, the West Australian, who is racing for Dick Johnson Racing/Shell V-Power Racing Team, was provisionally on pole after Friday’s qualifying session.
And in the shootout, he was once again too good around Mount Panorama, setting a time of 2.04.041, which was 0.176 quicker than Cam Waters, who was in second place.
This is despite Kostecki having made comments throughout the race weekend about the Ford cars being slower than the Camaros.
Co-driver of Kostecki, Todd Hazelwood, could only admire what his teammate had done out on the track to become the first man since the Top 10 shoutout started to have made three consecutive poles.
"Super proud – watching Brodie do that lap then, I really feel like we’re witnessing something incredible," Hazelwood said.
"To write his name in the history books… we’re arguably in the tightest era of Supercars.
"He almost makes it look easy.
"He oozes confidence ... I’m super proud of Brodie."
It proved to be a good shootout for the Ford cars despite Kostecki’s comments as 1st (Kostecki/Hazlewood) 2nd  (Waters/Winterbottom), 3rd  (Mosert/Coulthard), and 4th (Wood/Odeja) were all in Ford Mustangs.
For the Chevrolet, it was championship leader Broc Feeney leading the charge for the Camaros. He’ll start the race in 5th.
The 161-lap race will begin from 11:45am AEDT.
SEN will have live coverage of the Great Race on its radio network and the SEN App beginning from 10am.
