"No one misses this": Why you can't miss Beach Volleyball World Champs

Volleyball Australia President Craig Carracher has given some insight into how big the upcoming Beach Volleyball World Cup in Adelaide will be for Australian Volleyball.
This year’s World Cup will be the first time that Australia has officially held a beach volleyball World Championship on its shores.
And it is set to be the biggest one that the country has ever seen, with 96 teams set to compete in the 10-day event.
“We held the Sydney 2000 Olympics and that was about two-thirds the size in terms of global reach,” Carracher said on SEN’s Whateley.
“Because of the complications with the Olympics, you’re one of 40 sports, but also the number of athletes, we only allowed a small number of athletes back in those days.
“And at this event, we have 198 athletes, we have more than 50 countries represented, and this is the biggest event on their calendar over a two-year cycle.
“We hold the World Championships every two years, the Olympics every four years, and everyone had a good look at us in Paris.
“But the next big event to be held is this event, and then of course we’ll have LA (Olympics) in ’28.
“So, over this four-year cycle, this is the biggest it gets and will be the biggest beach volleyball tournament we’ve ever held in Australia.”
And with the high-profile nature of the event, that means all the big names in the sport are here, such as the World No. 1s in Brazil’s Thâmela Coradello and Victoria Lopes (women’s) and Norway’s Christian Sorum and Anders Mol (men’s), making it a must-see event according to Carracher.
“Every ranked athlete is here, no one misses this,” he noted.
“So, you have all your gold medallists, silver medallists, bronze medallists.
You have nine Australian teams as well, including one of our two silver medallists from Tokyo 2020, and all of our athletes from the Paris Olympics are competing here.

“So, all of our home crowd is there and then of course, you’ve got all the superstars.
“The Swedes, the Brazilians, the Americans, the Norwegians. I know it sounds funny, beach volleyball in all these Scandinavian countries, but they are dominating the world at the moment, and it will be super exciting to see if we can challenge them.”
The Championships will get underway on November 14 before concluding on November 23.
