Panthers star defends sexualised social media posts
Panthers winger Brian To’o has dismissed his sexualised social media commentary about some of his teammates’ partners as “banter”.
The 27-year-old made headlines for all the wrong reasons during the Panthers’ presentation night, posting comments about a handful of the women accompanying their partners to the event.
Posting images of couples dressed up for the night out, To’o targeted Nathan Cleary and his girlfriend Mary Fowler as well as Matt Eisenhuth, Tom Jenkins and Scott Sorensen.
The language used was crude and not suitable for public consumption, but the Panthers took no action against their man after “addressing the matter”.
Adamant none of his teammates had taken offence, To’o said: “It was always a bit of fun and banter.
“I actually don’t know what the problem was unless I’m talking about your wives or anything like that. It was a bit of banter, all the boys already knew.
“I always check up on them and see if they’re alright. They were pretty sweet with it.
“I was laughing about it (the reaction). That’s pretty much it.”
While his off-field behaviour has made headlines, To’o has been impressive on the field for the Panthers this season and will be integral to helping them reach a fifth successive Grand Final when they take on the Broncos this weekend at Suncorp Stadium.
It’s an impressive feat for a club which was sitting bottom of the ladder in round 12.
If they make if five Grand Final wins they will also become the first club to be crowned premiers from outside the top four in the NRL-era.
