Ange Postecoglou’s tenure at Tottenham looks set to continue after Spurs progressed to the semi-final stage of the UEFA Europa League.
Spurs would win 2-1 on aggregate with a Dominic Solanke penalty in the 43rd minute proving the difference in their second leg match against German side Eintracht Frankfurt.
The penalty was not initially awarded by the referee, but the decision was reviewed by VAR with James Maddison being deemed to have been taken out in the penalty box by Frankfurt's goalkeeper Kauã Santos.
On SEN 1170's Breakfast, Manchester United and Socceroos legend Mark Bosnich praised Postecoglou and Tottenham’s performance.
“A really really good performance, a performance where in the past you wouldn’t associate with Ange Postecoglou teams, but he is learning,” he said.
“He has had great experience as a manager, but he’s only been in the very top leagues nearly coming up to two seasons.
“His team, they weren’t at their fluent best. In fact, for large chunks of the game, they were outplayed.
“But they created some good chances, they hung in there and most importantly as you know, especially come this time of the season when you are so tired, there come times when you have to fight, when you have to do things that are not very nice to do and they did that and they did it very well.”
This semi-final will be the second time that Tottenham has made the final four of a European competition in the Premier League era showing what an achievement this is for the North London club.
That was back in 2018/19 in the Champions League when they beat Ajax 3-2 on aggregate to progress to the final.
Spurs will play Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt in the semi-final with the first leg taking place on May 1.
Tottenham will host the first leg of the semi-final tie and then will travel to Bodø the week after.
And Bosnich would also note the challenge that Bodø/Glimt could cause for Spurs after their quarter-final win against Lazio on penalties.
“They’re a team we’ve covered in the last two or three seasons cause they have been in the Champions League,” he continued.
“They’re not going to be easy but I would much rather if I was Ange Postecoglou to get them in all due respect to them rather than Lazio.”
This will also be the second time that Postecoglou has managed against Bodø/Glimt in a European competition.
He faced them in the play-offs for the knockout stage of the UEFA Conference League in 2022 when he was manager of Celtic. They lost that tie 5-1 on aggregate.
