Wolverhampton have begun 2026 the best possible way with a 3-0 win over West Ham overnight, giving the bottom placed side their first victory of the season.
The Wolves got off to the perfect start in this contest, after Jhon Arias scored the opening goal within the first five minutes of the contest.
This start threw the fellow struggling side West Ham off for the rest of the half, as the Wolves would then find a breakthrough to double their lead in 31st minute thanks to a penalty that was put away by Hee-Chan Hwang.
And with only minutes left in the first half to play, Mateus Mane (41st minute) sealed his side’s first victory of the season after putting the hosts 3-0 up before half time.
Wolverhampton aren’t the only team who have dealt with a coaching departure this season, as their opponents in West Ham are another side who fielding a squad that their current coach hasn’t had a hand in recruiting.
Former Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo now has the unwanted trivia question answer attached to his name, as the manager of the team who allowed this Wolves side to break their 19 game winless streak this season.
Through those first 19 games of the season, Wolverhampton only managed to avoid defeat three times whilst scoring a measly 11 goals in that timeframe – signifying the gratitude of this victory for this side and the disappointment of defeat this is for the Hammers.
In other results, Arsenal have bridged a six-point gap from second place Aston Villa after beating Bournemouth away from home 3-2 overnight.
Earlier in that matchday, Villa (who currently sit second) took care of business against Nottingham Forest at home, beating them 3-1.
And Brighton have recorded their seventh win of the season after knocking off the struggling Burnley at home, to the tune of a 2-0 result.
Still to come in the 20th match week of the Premier League season, Leeds United and Manchester United will battle it out on Sunday night, with both sides entering this contest desperate for a win to help keep the respective goals for their season alive.
Early on Monday morning, Liverpool will look to extend their unbeaten run to eight games as they travel to take on Fulham, whilst Everton host Brentford.
Newcastle and Crystal Palace, who are only separated by a point on the table, will battle it out at St James Park to try and enter the top 10 of the table.
And Manchester City will look to continue to try and keep more pressure applied to Arsenal at the top of the table when they take on a coach less Chelsea to round out the match week on Monday morning.
