Federation Square will not be the only live sites for Australia fans during the World Cup with multiple Westfield centres opening fans zones throughout the tournament.
Fans were furious when it was announced Fed Square – which played host to some iconic scenes during the 2022 and 2023 World Cups – would not be open to the public for this year’s competition.
Amid the backlash, Jacinta Allan overturned the decision on Thursday saying football was for everyone ands that games would be streamed.
Fans won’t have to trek into the city to enjoy the atmosphere of the world Cup – which takes place between June 12 and July 19 in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
“Westfield destinations will celebrate the world’s biggest sporting event in June and July with its campaign, ‘Football for Fans’, inviting communities to come together to watch their favourite teams live at SBS Football Fan Zones at every Westfield destination in Australia.”
In Victoria, the participating destinations are Doncaster, Southland, Knox, Airport West, Plenty Valley and Geelong.
The Socceroos get their campaign underway on June 14 against Türkiye, USA on June 20 and Paraguay on June 26.
