Han Xu towers into Lynx line up
Perth Lynx have landed a huge marquee signing on the eve of the 2025-26 Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) season, with the addition of Chinese basketball superstar, Han Xu, to complete their roster.
Standing at 2.11m (6′11″), Han is one of the tallest and most dominant players in women’s basketball globally. A proven force at both club and international level, she brings elite rim protection, shooting range and championship pedigree to the Lynx frontcourt.
Han was drafted 14th overall by the New York Liberty in the 2019 Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) Draft and has since built a standout career across the WNBA and China’s WCBA (Women’s Chinese Basketball Association).
Han is a two-time WCBA MVP, a back-to-back WCBA champion (2023, 2024), and a key figure in China’s national team success, including a silver medal at the 2022 FIBA Women’s World Cup and gold at the 2023 FIBA Asia Cup, where she was named Tournament MVP.
Han said she was excited about her first venture into the world of Australian basketball.
“I’m excited to join the Perth Lynx and play in Australia,” Han said. “I want to help the team win, and can’t wait to meet the players, coaches and fans.”
Lynx head coach, Ryan Petrik, said Han’s signing was a game-changer for the club.
“Han is a world-class talent and a true marquee signing for us,” Petrik said. “Her size, skill and experience at the highest levels of the game will make a huge impact. We’re thrilled to welcome her to Perth and can’t wait to see her in red.”
Han completes the puzzle of the Lynx’s ten-player roster for the upcoming WNBL season, as she joins Amy Atwell, Alex Ciabattoni, Alira Fotu, Steph Gorman, Tegan Graham, Anneli Maley, Yemiyah Morris, Kiara Waite and Ally Wilson.
Han will join up with the Lynx squad in the early stages of the 2025-26 WNBL season, following the completion of her duties in the Chinese National Games. A temporary replacement player to cover Han’s position in the early part of the season will be announced shortly.
The Lynx’s 2025-26 WNBL campaign gets underway on Sunday 19 October when they face the Adelaide Lightning at the SA State Basketball Centre.
