Why Postecoglou feels Forest tenure was 'a mistake'
Ange Postecoglou has admitted that it was a mistake to return to the Premier League with Nottingham Forest so soon after his stint at Tottenham.
The Europa League-winning manager had been sacked by Spurs following a 17th-place finish in the league during the 2024/25 season, which is their lowest in the Premier League era.
Shortly after the start of the next season, Postecoglou would be hired by Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis after parting ways with Nuno Espírito Santo despite having led them back to European football for the first time in 30 years.
But the Australian’s tenure with the Tricky Trees was…tricky to say the least.
Postecoglou only lasted 39 days in the job, having been unable to win any of his eight games in charge.
That would break the record for the shortest managerial stint by a permanent Premier League manager.
Reflecting on his experience on Stick to Football podcast, Postecoglou believed that it was a bad decision on his part.
“It was a bad decision by me to go into,” he said.
"I've got to take ownership of that. There's no point blaming timing or circumstances; I should never have gone in. It was too soon after Tottenham.
"I went in at a time when they were used to doing things a certain way, and although I was always going to do things differently, I've got to cop that.
"It was my mistake. It's no one else's fault.
"It was the first time I hadn't worked in 20-odd years, and I was lost. In the off-season, you're normally busy (with) transfers, pre-season, your mind is always ticking over.
"This time I wasn't, and I felt lost."
