"The worst I have seen them": Wallabies outclassed by England

The Wallabies could not repeat last year’s extra-time heroics against England, having suffered a 25-7 loss at Twickenham overnight to begin their Spring Tour campaign.
It proved to be a defensive tussle between the two sides, with neither scoring until the 20th minute, with George Ford scoring a penalty goal to give England a three-nil lead.
That was then quickly followed by a try from Ben Earl in the next minute to extend their lead.
Winger Harry Potter was able to keep the Wallabies within touching distance of England into the main break following an intercept within their defensive 22, which he ran all the way back to score.
But three second-half tries from the Red Roses in the last 20 minutes of the match would be enough for Steve Borthwick’s men to claim their eighth straight Test win.
Following that performance, former England player Matt Dawson called it the worst performance he had seen from Australia.
"Australia were dreadful," he told BBC Sport.
"The worst I have seen them, ever."
Whilst for Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt, he believed that his side did well for the first 40 minutes.
But ultimately, they were outdone by England’s bench, which featured the likes of Luke Cowan-Dickie and Henry Pollock, who scored two of the three second-half tries to close out the result.
“I felt that we hung in the first half, and we were pretty competitive, maybe had a couple of chances that we didn’t take,” Schmidt said in a post-game interview.
“But probably got lucky with the one we did when Harry Potter got away and scored.
“It was a real see-saw affair, but I felt they got the better of us in the second half.
“They’re a really good team, particularly in that last quarter when I thought some of the guys coming off the bench with the experience and power they had, coming off the bench.
“I felt we struggled in the last quarter, unfortunately.”
The Wallabies now begin their preparations for their second match of the Spring Tour.
That will be played next Sunday morning (4:40am AEDT) against Italy at Bluenergy Stadium in Udine.
