"Gutted": Wallabies remain winless during Spring Tour

The Wallabies’ Spring Tour has taken a turn for the worse following a disappointing 26-19 loss to Italy overnight in Udine.
Despite a bad start, which saw Australia concede the first two penalty goals of the match, they would slowly work themselves back into the game with tries from forwards Matt Faessler and Angus Bell, both scoring before the half to lead by three points.
While Italy managed to tie things in the 48th minute with another penalty goal, the Wallabies, through fly-half Carter Gordon in his return game after having played this season with the Gold Coast Titans, scored to the left of the uprights.
However, through Louis Lyangh (the son of former Wallaby Michael and brother of current Wallaby Tom) and Melbourne-born Monty Ioane, Italy scored two tries to give the Azzurri a seven-point lead with just under 20 minutes to play.
And with Australia unable to get a score during that time, it sees Italy claim their second straight win against them after beating them in 2022, which proved to be former coach Dave Rennie’s final game in charge before being sacked.
Once again, Australia’s penalty count would also hurt them, having conceded 12 compared to Italy’s seven.
Reflecting post-game after the Wallabies’ fifth loss in six games, coach Joe Schmidt expressed his disappointment with this stagnation in the side's performances.
"Pretty gutted, to be honest," Schmidt told Stan Sport.
"We just looked a bit flat, you know. I said progress isn't linear, but that was a flat performance. That's a dip we can't afford to have."
While for captain Harry Wilson, he admitted that it was frustrating that the team was unable to fix their issues from their 25-7 loss to England last week.
"We're hurting," he said.
"We wanted to fix up from last week. We said, 'we're going to fix it up,' and we didn't.
"We want to be a team that does what we said we're going to do, and we didn't do that tonight."
The Wallabies now face even tougher assignments to close out their Spring Tour, with matches against Ireland and France left to go.
Their next match will be in Dublin against the Irish next Sunday.
Kick off will be at 7:10am AEDT.
