The key Devils tasked with historic Tassie return

The Tasmania Devils kick off in the Victorian Football League this Saturday.
The biggest stride towards the club’s AFL inception in 2028 takes place at North Hobart Oval against Coburg on what is an historic day for the state.
Coach Jeromey Webberley - a former Richmond midfielder - has named the inaugural Devils side that will host the Lions in front of an expected crowd of 11,000.
Captaining the team is former Essendon forward Jye Menzie who has been named as rover. The 23-year-old is a North Hobart local so it’s fitting that he’ll lead the team at his home ground.
Menzie will skipper the side in the absence of club captain Robbie Fox (calf strain) who played 105 AFL games for the Sydney Swans.
Hugh Dixon, formerly on Fremantle and West Coast’s lists, lines up at full-forward while North Melbourne’s 2024 No.1 pick in the mid-season draft, Geordie Payne, is alongside him in the forward pocket.
Former Adelaide-listed player Sam Siggins is one of the veterans of the team and there is another Crows connection in Jack Callinan - the son of Ian who is a Tasmanian State League legend and played 32 games for the SA club.
Then there's Sydney’s 2024 VFL best and fairest Caleb Mitchell who will start in the midfield.

Note: Tasmania did play in the VFL from 2001 to 2008 but the Devils are deemed to be an entirely new club.
