Today’s horse racing tips: race predictions, best bets and preview for Monday at Sedgefield
Following a series of successful horse racing tips, Herrin Kendrick is eager to extend his winning run with today’s selections at Sedgefield and Wolverhampton on Monday, 23rd September. Read on to uncover his top picks of the day, including the much-anticipated Nap of the Day.
Three Key Stats from Today’s Tips:
  • Travel Success:
Neil Mulholland has a strong record when sending single runners on long trips, with two out of three such horses winning at Sedgefield last season.
  • Course Specialist:
Mordred is unbeaten at Sedgefield, having won on his only previous visit to the track.
  • Form Boost:
Good Banter’s debut second came against a horse with Group One entries, highlighting the quality of his initial performance.
This afternoon promises some captivating races, particularly at Sedgefield where the hurdles and chases are set to test both emerging talents and seasoned campaigners. In the 3:05 race, the likes of Mordred and Tropical Talent return to familiar grounds, vying for supremacy over the fences.
The 3:40 hurdle is set to be a stamina-sapping affair, with horses such as Lord Accord and Wonderwall expected to relish the extended distance on good ground. Over at Wolverhampton, the evening meeting features promising runners like Good Banter in the 5:00 race, who aims to build on an impressive debut, alongside contenders such as Time Patrol and One Road.
Nap of the Day: Lord Accord (3:40 Sedgefield)
Lord Accord stands out in the 3:40 at Sedgefield as a horse with both class and form on his side. Last time out at Uttoxeter, he stayed on strongly to finish third off his current mark, indicating that the additional 3½ furlongs today will play to his strengths. The form from that race has been franked, with the fourth-placed Bucko’s Boy narrowly beaten in a more valuable contest since.
Moreover, Lord Accord’s previous run saw him finish just behind Wonderwall, who subsequently missed victory by only a neck in Cartmel’s lucrative Cumbria Crystal Cup. Trainer Neil Mulholland’s decision to send him as his sole runner and first of the season at Sedgefield is noteworthy, especially considering his impressive strike rate with horses travelling long distances. Rated 11lb lower than his last winning mark over hurdles and favouring good ground, Lord Accord is well-placed to capitalise on these favourable conditions.
Mordred (3:05 Sedgefield)
Returning to Sedgefield where he made a triumphant chasing debut last September, Mordred is poised for another strong performance in the 3:05 race. He is only 4lb higher in the ratings than when he comfortably defeated Cawthorne by over three lengths here. That form looks solid, as Cawthorne went on to win by a significant margin in his next outing.
In his recent run at Newton Abbot, Mordred was challenging the progressive Beat Box until a mistake at the last fence cost him dearly. With Beat Box having since extended his winning streak, Mordred’s effort deserves credit. A modest 3lb rise in the weights is manageable, and with his proven affinity for the track and timing his return to form, he has a strong chance to go one better today.
