FIFA live: "Quit or get sacked" Germany football's ultimatum
World Cup daily news. We will bring you the latest from around the world as the FIFA World Cup 2026™ finally gets under way (All times AEST).

Germany's World Cup ended on a penalty shootout in the round of 32 - it was yet another premature end to a campaign that brough the country "shame" according to the local media.
Now, coach Julian Nagelsmann has reportedly been told to step down or face the sack amid whispers Jurgen Klopp is being lined up as his replacement.
According to Sky Sports in Germany, The German football association (DFB) has issued the ultimatum amid growing tensions with the coach.
Defeat to Paraguay was the first time Germany had ever lost a penalty shootout in a World Cup.
While Nagelsman insists he will not step down and that he wants to remain at the helm, he has come in for some significant criticism from former Liverpool and Germany midfielder Dietmar Hamann.
“This is a guy who rarely watches games, rarely watches games," he told BILD.
“He’s never been once in Milan to watch Bisseck play. He should’ve gone to the World Cup.
“He’s never been to Brentford in two-and-a-half years to watch Schade… In the Bundesliga, he might be watching one or two games a month.
“There’s Champions League games where Real Madrid played (against Bayern). We had the Africa Cup of Nations in January, where he could have watched (group stage opponents) Ivory Coast and some of the potential opponents. He didn’t go.
“(Portugal coach Roberto) Martinez is here, Tuchel is here. [France coach Didier] Deschamps, who’s won everything, is in his mid-60s, is in America for three weeks.
“Who’s not there? Our man. This is where I’ve got no sympathy for him.”

SPAIN DENIED
Despite taking the lead in the first half against Austria, pundits and players were left truly baffled after Spain had a goal disallowed.
thirty minutes into the clash in LA, Marc Cucurella found the back of the net off a Lamine Yamal corner, but the referee signalled for an Austria free-kick.
Replays showed that Pau Cubarsi had impeded goalkeeper Alexander Schlager in the area and as such the goal was denied.
“I don’t think there is anything wrong with that at all," Dion Dublin told the BBC.
“There is three Spain players around Alexander Schlager and he should be stronger.
“They’re allowed to stand there and jump for the ball, you don’t have to allow the goalkeeper to catch it.
“I think it is absolutely ridiculous, I think that is a perfectly legal goal.”
