Dodgers go back-to-back in Game 7 thriller
The Dodgers’ reign over the MLB has continued for yet another season after claiming a thrilling Game 7 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series.
After staving off elimination in Game 6 with a 3-1 win, Los Angeles was able to back up with a 5-4 win.
But they had to do it the hard way.
At the top of the 8th innings, the Dodgers were down 4-2 with Toronto on course to win their first World Series in 32 years.
However, third baseman Max Muncy in the 8th innings and second baseman Miguel Rojas in the 9th both hit solo home runs to tie the match with the Blue Jays having the opportunity to close out the match in the bottom of the ninth.
Toronto did have an opportunity to win the game, having managed to have all bases loaded with two outs to spare.
But after Rojas managed to throw out Isiah Kiner-Falefawho, who almost had the winning run and Andy Pages took an incredible catch on the warning track off of Ernie Clement’s deep hit, the game headed to extra innings.
That would be only the sixth time in history that a World Series Game 7 has required this to separate the two sides.
Los Angeles looked to have their own chance to close the game at the top of the 10th inning.
They, too, were unable to close it out there and then.
But the reigning champions only had to wait another inning as Will Smith in the 11th inning would hit a solo home run over the left side of the field to give them the lead heading into the bottom.
From there, pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who picked up the World Series MVP, closed out the match after coming on during the ninth innings to make Los Angeles the first side since the 1998-2000 New York Yankees to win back-to-back World Championships.
