Jovic: Rough start to history, the Mavs are coming

Mavericks vice-captain Molly Jovic believes the side is peaking at just the right time having overcome some rough performances this season to make club history.
Fresh from securing their maiden finals berth after some impressive wins over the Fever and the Vixens, the Mavericks are guaranteed a top four finish for 2026 but what remains unknown is if they will be given home advantage.
A final home and away season clash against the Firebirds this weekend can secure John Cain Arena for the opening weekend of SSN finals with Fever travelling to take on the Vixens.
It’s been a different kind of season for Jovic who has swapped the midcourt for the sideline as she prepares to welcome her first child later this year.
While not playing, she has been a pivotal member of the squad who have surpassed multiple milestones under the guidance of new coach Gerard Murphy and assistant coach Nicole Richardson.
“There's nothing like beating the Vixens for the first time,” Jovic told Gerard Whateley as part of Maverick membership day. “They’re second and beating the Vixens gives you confidence.
Finals are locked in so now we can go out there and enjoy it, muck around with some combinations, but you can play with more freedom knowing it’s secured.
“We are peaking at the right time, the right moment. We had some rough games at the start which has put us in good stead. We have beaten Fever and Vixens; we’re such a new club but we’re in the right direction at the right time.
“I’m feeling confident, the vibes are high and we have nothing to lose.
“The Mavs are here and we are ready to go.”
